The post basic ophthalmic training program is one of the components of New Sight Eye Center. It was established 2017 through Mr. Robert F. Dolo visionary and accredited by the Ministry of Health through the Liberian Board for Nursing and Midwifery (LBNM). As part of the accreditation requirement, NSEC and LBNM identified two African countries, The Gambia and South Africa for benchmarking and best practices on the training of ophthalmic nurses.

In 2016, the Ophthalmic Training Program curriculum was developed from the harmonized West African generic ophthalmic curriculum with the technical support of Mrs. Ellen Clegg, Korle-Bu Ophthalmic School coordinator from Ghana. It was reviewed and finalized by curriculum specialists from the Liberia Board for Nursing and Midwifery, stakeholders and NSEC staff in 2017.

Establishment of the ophthalmic training program in Liberia by New Sight Eye Center had made a great impact to the development of the eye health human resources.
